Gwynda Ann McDonald Hopkins, 69, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012.
The family will greet friends Tuesday evening, Jan. 1 at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Jan. 2 at 11 a.m., at the Southside Baptist Church in Altus, under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home. Brother Jason Dupree will officiate.
A second memorial service will be held Friday, Jan. 5 at 2 p.m. at the church in Rupert, Ark. Bro. Mike Cantrell will officiate. Burial will follow in the Rupert Cemetery.
She was born Sept. 17, 1943 in Rupert, Ark. to Albert and Martha McDonald. She graduated from Alread High School in 1962. On May 13, 1962, she married Gailand Bruce Hopkins in Rupert and spent the next 19 years traveling with her husband in support of his career in the United States Air Force. They retired in Altus in 1981 where she continued her career as a cosmetologist until her retirement in 2006. She was a faithful member of Southside Baptist Church for 35 years and was involved in a number of ways including teaching Sunday school, serving on numerous committees and singing in the choir and many Christmas and Easter cantatas.
She was preceded in death by her father, James Albert McDonald; her mother, Martha Elizabeth Brock McDonald Conley; father-in-law, Earl Rudolph Hopkins; mother-in-law, Geneva Marie Bartlett Hopkins; two brothers-in-law, Larry Hopkins and Neal Songer; and a sister-in-law, Sarah Wiley.
She is survived by her husband, Gailand Hopkins of Altus; son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Julie Hopkins of Plumerville, Ark; daughter and son-in-law, Richard and Annetta Lander of Altu; stepfather, Hobart Conley of Plumerville; sister and brother-in-law, Thomas and Donna Tester of Plumerville; brother and sister-in-law, Douglas and Marsha McDonald of Clinton, Ark.; sisters-in-law, Doris Songer of Sidney, Iowa, and Margaret Van Aken of LaGrange, Iowa and her companion Tim; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Steve and Janice Saitta of Omaha, Neb.; brother-in-law, James Hopkins of Edina, Mo.; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Richard and Marilyn Hopkins of Edina, Mo.; grandchildren, Sidney Champagne of Altus, Michael and Emily Hopkins of Conway, Ark., Madison Wetz of Altus, Ashlie Hopkins of Plumerville, Ark.; great-grandchildren, Jackelin and Jaqob Champagne of Altus, Jace Southerland of Altus, and Aaron Wilson of Plumerville; and by a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and many other relatives and friends.
