Mayor David Webb signed a proclamation with “Jiminee” the Clown (Jim DeWilde) in the Mayor’s office at City Hall to to ask all citizens of Altus to observe and take part in activities recognizing the importance of laughter, and clowns and clown organizations to the cultural life of our City, State, Nation and World.
International Clown Week was proclaimed, whereas clowning is one of the oldest forms of artistic expression dating back to the earliest of empires, and is subscribed to by all races and creeds. Clowns have been known as ambassadors of joy and good will and bring happiness to children and adults. Clowning never fails to bring wonder into the eyes of a child, or the twinkle into the eyes of the aged. Clowning is used to teach safety and protection from harm and laughter is known to be of medicinal value. Clowning creates more laughter than tears, dispenses more happiness than gloom, spreads more cheers that despair, and momentarily makes people forget all the unpleasant things in their lives.
