Motorists urged to use caution as school year begins

August 11, 2013

Altus motorists are urged to use extreme caution as another year begins for Altus Public Schools. Tuesday, Aug. 13 is the first day of classes for Altus students. Be aware of posted speed limit signs and for school buses that are loading and unloading students.

Altus police officers will once again be watching school zones. A no tolerence approach will be taken with motorists who disobey speed limits and overtake school buses while children are loading and unloading. Bus drivers will also report motorists to police who are in violation of this law.

Watch for children as they cross streets while walking to and from school, and be especially careful for those children who might walk out between parked cars and into the roadway.

“It’s an exciting time once again for our children as they begin another school year,” said Altus Police Chief Tim Murphy, “so let’s all work together to make this a safe and successful school year in Altus.”
