Policy proposals among items on Monday’s School Board agenda

The regular monthly meeting of the Altus School Board will meet Monday at 5 p.m. in the conference room of the administrative center, 219 N. Lee.

Under the superintendent’s reports and comments, Mr. Hill will present district accreditation, and the 2013 ACT scores.

Under the consent agenda, monthly reports will be presented, including activity and cafeteria funds, the appointment of Gifted and Talented Advisory Committee, District Professional Development Advisory Committee, continued participation in the Oklahoma Public School Unemployment Compensation Account, Statewide Alternative Academy Plan for FY14, use of school facilities and an agreement with Head Start.

Contracts for Altus Public Schools Golf Team to us the Windy Trails Golf Course and The Greens of Altus will be presented, as will a memorandum of understanding with the Jackson County Health Department for teen pregnancy prevention.

Proposed policy proposals include online instruction, teacher evaluations, teacher termination procedures, open transfer policy, harassment, regulation prohibiting harassment, and investigative procedures for prohibiting harassment.

The Board will then consider retirements, reassignments, proposed substitutes/time sheet employees/volunteers/and extra duty assignments.

In executive session, the Board will discus proposed new hires, and after reconvening into open session, take any necessary action.

The Board will then consider and take necessary action to accept or not accept the superintendent’s recommendation to terminate Melinda Michael and to confirm the hearing on that recommendation to be immediately following the 5 p.m. regular Board meeting on Oct. 14 in the Board Conference Room at the Administration Center.

The Board will also consider approving Superintendent Hill to attend the AASA National Conference on Education in Nashville, Tenn. on Feb. 13-15, 2014, to be paid by OASA.

Various financial statements and estimate of needs for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2014 will then be presented, followed by other academic measures list of the TLE System that have been approved by the Oklahoma State Board of Education.

The Board will then consider adopting a resolution for the Jackson County Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan.

Other agenda items will include the declaring of the football scoreboard from Hightower Stadium as surplus, and consider a bid for a school vehicle for the technology department. If there is no other business of an emergency nature that was not known at the time the agenda was posted, the meeting will adjourn.
