The 1st Annual “Alzheimer’s Stops With Me” Kickball Tournament was held Saturday, Sept. 28, at the City of Altus baseball fields, 600 Katy Drive, to raise donations and awareness of Alzheimer’s disease. Six teams from local assisted living centers businesses battled for first, second, and third place trophies in a double elimination tourney. The Angels in the Outfield took home the 1st Place trophy, 2nd place went to the Bench Warmers, and third place to Grace Wars.

“Thank you to Sonic for donating 100 free drinks, and thank you to Tara Bowman, Manager of Hibbits who kept score and handed out special coupons for Hibbits,” said Angela Ybarra, Angels Care Home Health Account Executive. “Thank you everyone for your support.”

Ybarra states that according to the Alzheimer Association, Alzheimer’s disease is an epidemic, and is the sixth leading cause of death in the U.S. “It is the only one in the top ten without a means to prevent, cure, or even slow its progress,” sh said.

The event was organized and co-sponsored by Angels Care Home Health and Plantation Village Assisted Living Center. All proceeds raised went directly to the Alzheimer’s Association. Terri Wells is the Volunteer for the Alzheimer’s Association, and directs the Altus Alzheimer’s Association Caregivers Support Group. Those meetings are held the 3rd Thursday of every month at Tamarack Assisted Living.
