Altus Air Force Base (AFB) has submitted a request to modify the groundwater monitoring program required by their Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) Corrective Action (CA) Permit No. 9571824045-CA, EPA ID No. OK9571824045, to the Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ).
Altus AFB is located within parts of Sections 34, 35, and 36 of Township 3 North, Range 20 West Indian Meridian, and Sections 1, 2, 3, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, and 15 of Township 2 North, Range 20 West, Indian Meridian all located in Jackson County.
Altus AFB has requested these modifications to optimize the existing performance monitoring system by changing the sampling frequency, monitoring schedule, and number of sampling locations for a limited subset of monitoring wells. In addition, Altus AFB has requested corrections to some typographical errors in the permit.
A copy of the proposed modifications may be reviewed during normal business hours at the Altus Public Library, 421 N. Hudson, Altus, Oklahoma or on the Second Floor of the Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) Building, 707 N. Robinson Avenue, in Oklahoma City. No later than 60 days after the date of this notice, any person may submit written comments on the proposed action to Dr. Saba Tahmassebi at Oklahoma DEQ, Land Protection Division, P.O. Representatives from Altus AFB will be available to answer questions about the proposed permit modification on October 30, 2013, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Altus Public Library, 421 N. Hudson in Altus.
