The 36th annual Chamber of Commerce sponsored Farm City Week Banquet was held Thursday. Jim Gover, Chairman of the Board, served as Master of Ceremonies. Local band “Just Call Us When You Need Us” entertained the group during the beginning of the banquet, and after a catered meal, Gover spoke to the group in attendance about the purpose of Farm City Week, and how well the week’s activities went. Those activities included a luncheon at WOSC, farm tours, and a tour of Altus Air Force Base.
John Dee Butchee then spoke to the group about the conservation district, and then introduced the two winners of the Jackson County Conservation District Speech Contest. Karlee McCombs and Kennady Nance both gave their speeches, and then each were presented a $100 scholarship from Gayle Ledbetter of KEYB Radio.
Mary Esparza of KWHW then spoke about the “Legends of Agriculture” Award and then presented a plaque to the recipient, Ida Fay Winters. Winters spoke of her love for the community and her connections with agriculture, and said she was honored to receive the award. Altus Air Force Base’s Col. William Spangenthal, 97th AMW Commander, also presented Winters with a special coin commemorating her as the 14th recipient of the award.
