Behavior modification parenting classes offered

Southwestern Youth Services Clinical Counselor, Penny Carlson, M.S., LPC, under the supervision of the Director of SWYS, will be teaching parenting classes in accordance with STEP (Systematic Training of Effective Parenting), which has be the leading parenting course curriculum for over twenty years. STEP has demonstrated positive and effective results and helps parents through the challenges of child misbehavior from ages four to adolescence.

Carlson has experience with teaching the STEP curriculum and has since discovered the specific parenting areas that seem to be requiring more attention and has altered her classes accordingly, to provide information and tools parents need the most in behavior adjustment and modification.

In addition, Carlson allows the last day of class to be dedicated to helping parents with their specific needs and individuals problem areas so that they have individualized helped in building tools and techniques for their own family.

Anyone interested in attending this parenting course can call for enrollment. Classes will begin on Saturday, Jan. 11, 2014, from 12-1 p.m., and will be held the four following Saturdays at the SWYS Headquarters at 319 N. Hudson Street in Altus. Refreshments will be provided.
