Hospital adds pediatric specialty

Jackson County Memorial Hospital welcomes Neil Vitale, M.D. to the Counseling Center at 1200 East Tamarack Road in Altus. Vitale is a Pediatric Developmentalist and specializes in evaluating children with attention, learning and behavior problems. He is Board Certified by the American Board of Pediatrics and is a Fellow in the American Academy of Pediatrics.

Vitale comes to Altus from Waterbury, Connecticut, where he practiced General Pediatric medicine for 26 years. He was involved in many professional activities and conducted research and presentations involving Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder.

For the last six years, he was selected a “Top Doc” in Pediatrics in the Connecticut Magazine. An award conducted by peer-physicians throughout the state.

Prior to medical school, Vitale attended Oklahoma City University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education. He taught High School for four years in Lucas, Kansas before entering medical school at the University of Kansas School of Medicine in Kansas City, Kansas. He earned a Doctor of Medicine degree in 1985.

After graduating from medical school, he chose the Pediatric residency at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine, in the Department of Pediatrics Primary Care Program. He continued and completed a Fellowship in Behavior and Developmental Pediatrics.

Vitale will see patients at the Counseling Center at 1200 East Tamarack Road in Altus. “As a Pediatric Developmentalist, I treat children who need more specialized care for attention and behavioral disorders,” explains Vitale. “My entire career has allowed me to care for children and I am delighted for the opportunity to bring my expertise to Oklahoma.”

Vitale is married to the former Renae Weber who grew up in Lone Wolf and graduated from Lone Wolf High School. He said they have been warmly welcomed into the Southwest Oklahoma community and “we look forward to settling in and becoming acquainted with everyone.”

The JCMH Counseling Center is located at 1200 East Tamarack Road in Altus. Rhonda Valdez, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, is the Director. “We welcome Dr. Vitale and are so pleased that we can now offer this specialized care for children.”
