Altus Public Elementary schools welcomed 2013 Miss Oklahoma, Kelsey Griswold, on Wednesday, Feb. 5, for assemblies where students were initiated into the “The Miss Oklahoma Prince and Princess Club.” Miss Oklahoma assured the students that by joining her club, whatever dream they might have will come true. With much excitement, the queen of the club and the students shared their dreams with students at each assembly.

At Sunset Elementary, 0ne girl wants to be a beauty queen like Miss Oklahoma, and another girl wants to own a race car, and another wants to be a professional four-wheeler. One boy wants to be a surgeon, and another boy wants to be an NFL player, and another wants to be a video game designer. Miss Oklahoma shared her dream: To be a movie star.

“Dreams are possible,” Griswold said during the afternoon assembly at Sunset Elementary. “They are totally, 100 percent possible. You can make anything happen…anything. If you want something and you have the ability to go out and get it, you can. No one is telling you that you can’t. Maybe there are people telling you that you can’t. If that happens, I want to be the first person to tell you that it’s possible from these steps, the steps you’ll take from the Price and Princess Club are the steps that you need to take in order to make those dreams come true.”

Miss Oklahoma then outlined the four promising steps and importance of each one, that every prince and princess must take to be in the club and to prepare them to attain their dreams. First step: graduate from school. Second step: help and serve others by volunteering. Third step: take care of your body by eating healthy and regular exercising and avoiding cigarettes, drugs and alcohol. And the final step: To love others and oneself.

Following the club initiation, Miss Oklahoma answered several questions from students before singing “Gold,” by Britt Nicole and “Your Song” by Elton John.

Miss Oklahoma was also at River’s Elementary and Roosevelt Elementary on Wednesday, and will be at Will Rogers and Washington today. Miss Oklahoma will finish her tour of Altus with the Miss Altus Pageant, at the Altus City Auditorium on Saturday, Feb. 8 starting at 8 p.m.
