Altus A-1 Car Care is having their Grand Opening Celebration from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 8, at 1413 N. Main Street, Altus.
Altus A-1 Car Care will be “kicking things off” with KWHW and KQ106 FM on location. Fun will include musical entertainment by the Blocker Stephens Blue Grass Band and a viewing of Classic Cars, including the Scorpion V Dragster, Top Fuel Eliminator of the AHRA of 1964, created by Hall of Famer and the “Original Texas Legend,” Bob Langley.
“Come join the fun with free hot dogs, raffles and more while locals, George Selvidge and friends display their top of the line Classic Cars for viewing,” said Altus A-1 Car Care owner, Dan Dempsey. “If you have it, bring it!”
“We are going to have the church directory introduced at the grand opening,” Dempsey explained. “We’d be the only one in town that has a church directory and we’re really proud of that.” A church directory of services being held in Altus will be posted on their new digital billboard on specified days.
Altus A-1 Car Care, a car detailing and paint-less dent repair service, restored their building back to the way it was when it was a Phillips 66 service station, once owned by the late Gene Graham and Bill Mantzke of Altus.
“Gene and the guys would hang out there and play dominoes for hours,” said Graham’s widow, Sandy Graham. It used to be called Gene and Bill’s when the two partners co-owned the business in 1978, until Gene took over from ‘93 to ‘98. Then it was Graham’s Phillips 66 Service Station.
Altus A-1 Car Care co-owner Dan Dempsey and his son and co-owner Tom Langley, sought to replicate those important details to give the new car detail shop a nostalgic feel.
Altus A-1 Car Care has added some newer elements. First and foremost, Langley is a specialist in paint-less dent removal, effective for removing minor dents and dings. “The preferred procedure for hail damage is paint-less dent repair,” Dempsey explained. “We’ll be one of the few detail shops doing it.”
