The OHSRA works to promote these athletes in sanctioned rodeos and events throughout the state of Oklahoma during the school year starting in the fall and culminating in June with the state finals. There are many benefits for these students who participate. Foremost is family participation, with parents volunteering their time and efforts to help produce the rodeos. Awards and prize money are given to fastest times and highest scores in each participants respective event(s). Contestants end their rodeo season by competing in an annual state finals; with the top four finishers advancing to a national finals sanctioned by the National High School Rodeo Association, which is to be held in Gillette, Wyoming. Another opportunity and added benefit are the many scholarships available at the state and national level. Students who participate at these events also have the chance to be recruited by colleges from throughout the nation who have intercollegiate rodeo programs, providing them additional financial benefits which supplement them in working towards various career fields.

OHSRA President, Randy Harmon had this to say about the WOSC Rodeo, We are excited that the Western Oklahoma State College Rodeo Team is going to include a high school rodeo in this years activities. I know the OHSRA members and their families are looking forward to a great weekend of rodeo competition, as well as enjoying the community of Altus. Communities hosting a High School Rodeo event reap the benefits of a positive economic impact. Families from throughout the state will be buying meals, staying in motels, buying gas, and shopping in retail outlets to take advantage of the uniqueness that Altus offers.
For more information on this weekends event please call the WOSC Rodeo Office at 580-477-7801.
