Southwest Oklahoma is known for a lot of things, but one of the things it is best known for is the sweltering heat that grips the area from June through August, making it miserable to step out of the comfort of one’s car, air conditioning or swimming pool.
Outdoor birthday parties become almost impossible to plan without risking children and adults alike to the harsh rays of the sun. Of course a pool is always an option but sometimes children just want to have fun without getting soaked.
Luckily, the Altus community has a fairly new business where children can play without overheating and have fun in a unique and bouncy setting.
Monkey Roo’s Indoor Party Center is Altus’ only indoor inflatable party center and the only one in this area not requiring a somewhat lengthy car ride. It can be found at 321 West Commerce St. directly in front of SIMS Martial Arts.
Monkey Roo’s opened its doors in March and since then it has been consistently packed with private parties and fun-loving children and adults looking to have a great time out of the stifling heat.
“So far it has been amazing,” said owner Jason Greer. “The support from the community has been fantastic. Everybody is really excited that there is such a place to go to to have birthday parties.”
The center offers a two-hour time slot for $250 or a three-hour time slot for $325. There are two 10-foot tables set up in an area designated for parties and a full-service kitchen for the storage of food, drinks and ice cream. The final 30 minutes of each party will be dedicated to food and presents.
Of course, Monkey Roo’s is more than just a party center. It also allows time for open play. Open play is Monday, Wednesday and Friday between the hours of 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. and Tuesday and Thursday between the hours of 4-7 p.m.
The cost for open play per child is $5 per hour, $12 for two hours or $15 for three hours. A parent is required to escort his or her child into the party room and sign the required paperwork, but he or she does not have to stay if the child is over the age of six. However, it should be noted that once the parent has arrived to pick up children, the parent is required to go inside to get them.
There are a few rules that must be followed such as: socks are to be worn at all times, skirts will not be allowed in the bounce area, tank tops will not be allowed in the bounce area and all children and parents must have fun.
Of course, should anybody wish to have one of the bounce house parties at home, Greer offers that too with his JB’s Moon Jump Rentals business. He offers bounce houses, slides, bounce house and slide combinations, kiddie inflatables, interactive inflatables and an awesome bungee jump set-up with a 225-pound weight limit.
