The Museum of the Western Prairie, the Western Trail Historical Society has scheduled will the premiere of the interpretive art exhibition “The Stories They Could Tell: The Landscapes and Vernacular Architecture of Southwest Oklahoma” at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 16 showcasing the work of local artist Brian Nichols. The exhibition gallery is set to open 6 p.m.
Altus Masonic Lodge No. 62 is holding a monthly pancake breakfast fundraiser for $5 with biscuits, gravy, bacon, sausage, eggs, milk, coffee and juice from 7-11 a.m. June 18 to eat-in or carry-out at the lodge at 1120 N. Hudson St. in Altus.
An election will be held 11 a.m. June 21 at the Altus Meal Site at 905 N. Willard St., Altus to elect one alternate board member for the east Jackson target area at large to the Southwest Oklahoma Community Action Group Inc. board of directors. The area includes Altus, Blair and Headrick and anyone serving in that position must reside within these boundaries.
St. John Baptist Church in Altus is holding its ninth annual feeding program. The church will be providing lunches from the fellowship hall at 620 MLK Drive 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday. The feeding will end June 30. Church pastor the Rev. Robert Bostic started this program in 2009, and they have been able to serve thousands of meals, in 2015 alone more than 2,000 people, many of whom were children. Elm and Hudson Church of Christ will be holding Vacation Bible School Olympics themed “Champions for Christ” Sunday evenings June 12 and 19. Children are to meet in the Annex at 5 p.m. and the adult class is to meet in the Auditorium at 6 p.m. Topics will be know their strength about Shadrach, Meshack and Abednego on June 5; compete together about the paralytic man and his friends on June 12 and compete to the end about the Apostle Paul. Evenings are set to include sandwiches and chips in the Annex followed by skating at The Skate Place on June 5, pizza and a movie in the Annex on June 12 and a family picnic at Hoyt Shadid Park on June 19.
