Farm Hand Olympics include such competitions as wheel barrow races.

County Fair time is just around the corner, Sept. 9-12. Along with all of the animal events, entries and exhibits, there are fun competitions being held for the kids. These include the Farm Hand Olympic, Tractor Pedal Pull Contest and Children’s Day at the fair.

Farm Hand Olympics are for junior and senior youth, and will be held on Thursday, Sept. 10 at 7 p.m. This event may involve sack races, wheel barrow races, hay hauling, salt block races, tire rolling, lawn mower races, and dressing up like a farmer. One year participants even had to move Madagascar hissing cockroaches – ugh! Events can be changed for surprise events at the discretion of the Superintendent. But in any case, participants always have a blast with this event. So if you attend school in Jackson County, be sure to come out and have some fun.

Children’s Day is set for Friday, Sept. 11, from 9 to 11:30 a.m., and will feature several activities for kids to participate in as well as several fun demonstrations involving dogs, and roping. There will even be a carnival at this year’s fair with special discount prices for children during the children’s day times. If you would like to see how much weight you can move with a pedal tractor, then youth up to 11 years old can enter the Tractor Pedal Pull Contest, sponsored by Jackson County Young Farmers and Ranchers on Saturday, Sept. 12 at 9:30 a.m. The tractor and sled are provided, you just need to bring the muscle!
