Altus Schools’ students, revenue continue to decline

At the Board of Education meeting Monday, Sept. 14, the Board declared a list of items as surplus to be sold to the public. The date of that sale has not yet been released. On the agenda and addressed by the Board was the matter of a Quit Claim Deed unto Lorin J. Winters, of 721 N. Park Ave. Altus Public Schools was charged for not mowing the lawn across from Washington Elementary, due to incorrect wording in the original deed. The Board approved the adjustments to the deed, making Altus Public Schools the owner of and responsible for the north half of lot one and two, which is the parking lot.

Approval was granted on the various financial statements and estimate of needs for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2016. The Board acknowledged the continual decline in student numbers and the estimation of less money this school year.

General items on the agenda such as claims, the consent agenda, the acceptance of resignations, substitutes, time sheet, and new hires were also accepted and approved by the Board.

At the closing of the meeting the Board members expressed their pride in the execution of the Altus High Homecoming Pre-Game and Parade. A job well done for everyone involved in making it happen.




Resignations were appoved. Certified were Joyce Frederick, Title at Will Rogers, effective 8/31/15. Non-certified were Erasmo Gonzalez, Custodian at Altus Junior Hight, effective 9/9/15; Elizabeth Niemela, 4 hour cook at Rivers Elementary, effective 9/25/15; Randall Parks, Security Officer at Altus High School, effective 9/3/15; and Donna Rowland, secretary to Athletic Director, effective 9/4/15.

Time sheet employees approved were: Ulysees Bridges, Rosalyn Callins, Jacob Gonzales, Fred Hancock, Richard McMahan, and Braden Pickett.

New hires, Support staff approved: Johnny Conrad, crossing guard at Will Rogers, effective 8/24/15; JD Falkner, Special Ed Aide at Washington, effective 8/25/15; Kellie Gribble, Secretary to Athletic Director, effective 9/2/15; Charles King, 2 hour bus driver, pending certification; Miranda Miller, Teacher’s Aide at Washington, effective 8/28/15; and Kate Neal, Special Ed Aide at Rivers, effective 9/15/15.
