Altus Fire Fighters Local 2749, along with the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF), kicked off the firefighters’ annual ‘Fill the Boot’ fundraising campaign to help raise money and awareness for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA).
As the Muscular Dystrophy Association’s largest national sponsor, the IAFF fuels MDA’s mission to save and improve the lives of people affected by muscular dystrophy, ALS and other diseases that severely limit strength and mobility, helping them live longer and grow stronger.
Firefighters stood at intersections along Main Street with boots in hand for this year’s drive on Saturday, Sept. 5 to collect money from citizens driving by. After calculating the totals, the Altus Fire Fighters Local 2749 raised $3,266.94.
Local 2749 President and Altus Firefighter Chase Duncan was pleased to partner with the MDA and raise funds for the organization. “We are very grateful to the citizens of Altus for their donations and support,” said Duncan. “We also would like to say thank you to the City of Altus, volunteers and the firefighters for their involvement in this year’s campaign.”
All funds raised through 2015 ‘Fill the Boot’ events help support MDA’s life-enhancing programs, provide support services and push researchers to the limits in the search for treatments and cures.
