UPDATE — Altus Police Chief Tim Murphy updated the story of a man found dead in Tillman County Aug. 22.

A third person has been arrested in connection with the shooting death of 32-year-old Jared Allen Holmes. Altus police were notified the evening of Sept. 12 that the U.S. Marshall’s Fugitive Task Force apprehended 23-year-old Marquis Deshawn Johnson in Lawton.

Two Felony Arrest warrants were issued the afternoon of Sept. 12 through the Jackson County District Court for Johnson on charges of accessory after the fact and unlawful removal of a dead body. Investigators believe the shooting suspect, Marielle Trey Smith and his girlfriend Ryan McKenzie Fields drove to Lawton after the shooting and transported Johnson back to Altus to help remove the victim’s body from the crime scene in the 400 block of North Julian Street. Holmes’ body was discovered on Tuesday Aug. 22 in a rural area in Tillman County.

Smith and Fields were taken into custody by the United States Marshall’s Fugitive Task Force Sept. 7.

The suspects were located and taken into custody at an apartment complex on or near N.W. 122nd Street in Oklahoma City. The two were transported back to Altus early Friday morning where investigators conducted interviews with the two suspects.

Murphy said a vehicle belonging to Holmes was located in Lawton Aug. 28.

Altus police were notified by the Lawton police department that the vehicle belonging to Holmes had been recovered from a residence in Lawton, Murphy said. Police believe Smith and and Fields took the vehicle, a 2002 Black Chevy Tahoe, to a residence in West Lawton and parked in the garage.

The homeowner became suspicious and realized police had been searching for the Tahoe. She then contacted Lawton police. Police will continue to investigate what knowledge, if any, the homeowner has about the homicide or stolen vehicle.

On Aug. 29 the vehicle was transported back to Altus to be processed by investigators and an arrest warrant was issued through the Jackson County District Court for Fields.

Investigators believe Fields assisted in the murder of Holmes and helped Smith clean the crime scene and dispose of the victim’s body. Investigators believe Fields and Smith took the victim’s vehicle to Lawton shortly before the crime was reported to Altus police on the morning of Aug. 21.

Johnson’s bail was set at $250,000 bond, Smith’s bond has been set at $500,000 and Field’s bond has been set at $250,000. The three suspects are being held at the Jackson County Jail.

This story will be updated as new details emerge during the investigation.
