A Street Dance has been added to the events on Saturday that include the Main Street Altus “Cotton Pickin’ Chili Cook-Off” in downtown Altus. The Altus Live event will feature a live band from 7 to 10 p.m. on the downtown square.

Festivities tomorrow begin at 10 a.m., with chili served beginning at 10:30 a.m. There will be trophy presentation at 2 p.m. Trophies and cash prizes will be given for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in each division.

The event will include a lot of takes on chili, but entries will also include a barbecue contest and a salsa contest.

You can purchase tasting kits for just $3, which allows you to walk around and get a taste of all of the entries you want, while supplies last.

Sponsors for this year’s Cotton Pickin’ Chili Cook-Off include The Altus Times, Livingston Machinery Co., Western Equipment, Wilmes Superstore, Bar-S, Jackson County Memorial Hospital, KHOWL, Cotton Growers Cooperative, Stockmans Bank, KEY-B, NBC Bank, The City of Altus, Fowler Agency, KWHW, KQ106, and Helena Chemicals.

A registration form is available online at, or one can be picked one up at the Main Street Altus office, 215 N. Main Street. Call the Main Street Altus office at 580-482-2277 or email for more information. For more information about the dance, contact the Altus Chamber of Commerce at 482-0210.
