The regular meeting of the Board of Education of the Altus Public Schools was held Monday in the board conference room at the administrative center.

Superintendent Hill stated that the Christmas semester break would be Dec. 21, 2015 through Jan. 4, 2016.

Assistant Superintendent / Related Services Roe Worbes reported on the Grade Centers Committee meeting. Upcoming Parent/Community meetings are set for Jan. 5 , 7, 13, 14, and 27, 2016 at 6 p.m at the elementary schools. The meetings will give patrons the opportunity to ask questions, and discuss concerns. On Feb. 8,2016 the committee will submit recommendations to the board.

“If the board votes to convert the elementary schools to grade centers, there will be a lot of work and many decisions will have to be made. One change would be the renaming of schools and reassignment of schools and counselors,” said Hill.

Board member Deborah Phillips asked if a ballpark financial number in the case of a conversion could be given. Worbes replied, “A few modifications would be necessary, then he would be glad to give a financial investment report.”

The consent agenda was approved along with the revised amendments to school policies on Nondiscrimination, Altus Public Schools Wellness Policy, Grade Placement Promotion and Retention-Grades K-8, and Reading Sufficiency.

Resignation of James Ruby was approved and there were no reassignments of District Personnel. Approval was given on the proposed substitutes/time sheet employees/volunteers and extra duty assignments.

The board did not enter an executive session.

Superintendent Hill presented the 2016-17 School calendar and it was unanimously approved.

Jessica Robinson and Rachel Terry were approved to attend the Link Crew Basic Training in Aptos, Calif. on March 13-16, 2016. The Link Crew helps 8th graders to make the transitional move into high school, and also helps the seniors serve as mentors.

Approval was given for retrofit roofs for the Altus High School Vocational Agricultural building, cafeteria corridor, and Will Rogers Elementary School.

The meeting adjourned with no new business.
