The Altus Animal Control Adopt-A- Pet Day will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. tomorrow, Saturday, Dec. 9 at the Altus Community Center on Falcon Road. Those putting the event on are the City of Altus Animal Control, the Altus Area Spay Neuter Incentive Program, and the Altus Animal Welfare Advocate group.
There are over 80 dogs and 20 cats that will be transported to the Altus Community Center that will be available for adoption. To start the adoption process, you will need a drivers license or validated identification. Paperwork will be completed and the $50 adoption fee will be received.
Bar S Foods and Thompson Dr. Pepper will be giving free hot dogs and sodas to everyone in attendance, and volunteers will be assisting with the adoptions.
If you don’t want to adopt a pet, Animal Control reminds everyone that you can help out by making donations. There is always a need at the center for items such as bleach, laundry soap, leashes, collars, flea treatments, dry dog food (for adult dogs and puppies), food dishes, tie out cables, toys, dog beds, dog shampoo, nail clippers, canned dog food, dryer sheets and gift cards. If you would like to volunteer your time to help at the center, volunteers must be over 18, or adult supervised.
Altus Animal Control reminds everyone to research the type of pet you want, and remember that being a pet owner is a responsibility.
Animal Control is open Mondays through Fridays from 8 a.m. to 5p.m., Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. They are located at 220 Enterprise Drive. For more information, call the center at 580-481-2285.
