Country and Western Senior Citizens Dance at 7 p.m. every Thursday at the Community Center. Cost is $5. Live band, and refreshments.

AWANA (Approved Workman Are Not Ashamed) has begun its fall semester at the Emmanuel Baptist Church, 800 N. Forrest. They meet from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday evenings. AWANA is for boys and girls Pre-K through 6th grade. Boys and girls will have fun playing games and memorizing scriptures from the Bible. Transportation is available for all kids by calling the church office at 482-1775. Enrollment forms are also available from the church office Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

BLAST (Bringing Love and Sharing Truth) is for all 5th and 6th grade boys and girls. They meet Tuesdays from 3 to 5 p.m. at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 800 N. Forrest. Children receive help with homework and enjoy snacks, games, and being taught stories from the Bible. BLAST is free to all 5th and 6th graders. Announcing a new fitness and fun activity in Altus! A Masters Swim Club is forming in Altus. Coaches, workout time, stroke clinics will be available at the Altus City pool. Competitions are not mandatory and all levels of swimmers are welcome. Please contact:

Boy Scout meetings for boys in grades 1-5 are held every Tuesday from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. A Kick off party and sign up is being held for Pack 265 on Thursday, Sept. 3 at 6:30 p.m. at Grace United Methodist Church, 620 S. Celebrate Recovery is now starting their 12 Step Meetings at 4:30 p.m. every Sunday at Glad Tidings Assembly of God, 1505 Tamarack. Meetings are free and anonymity is the key. Their large meeting is followed by a fellowship afterwards at 6 p.m. If you are hurting, have habits you’d like to leave behind, or hang-ups that are getting in the way of your life, come join this group that takes the journey together. Altus Ballroom Dancers meet from 7 to 9 p.m. each Monday in the east end of the Altus Community Center on Falcon Road. Ballroom dancing lessons are offered the first hour, followed by open dancing the second hour. Habits, hang-ups and hurts – if you struggle with any or all of these, come join the Celebrate Recovery meetings on Sundays at the Glad Tidings Assembly of God, 1505 E. Tamarack. The Lions Club meets every Thursdays from noon to 1 p.m. at the Western Oklahoma State College multipurpose room.

The Altus Meal Site is needing volunteers to help deliver meals to those who are homebound. Meals are delivered Monday thru Friday. Any time you can give is appreciated. If you would like to volunteer call the Altus Meal Site at 580-482-1290. The Altus Meal Site is a part of Southwest Oklahoma Community Action Group.

The Operation CARE Food Pantry offers free food to qualified applicants every third Saturday of the month. 10:30 Devotion and food pantry open 11 to 12 noon.

The Southwest Oklahoma Quilt Guild meets on the first Thursday of each month at Grace United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall (south end of building) on South Park Lane at 10 a.m., potluck luncheon at noon, and business meeting at 1 p.m., followed by the monthly program. On the third Thursday of each month is a quilt workday, so bring a project and join in.

Christian Motorcyclists Association meets every first Thursday of the month at Fred’s on N. Main in Altus, at 7 p.m. Riders of all types of bikes welcome and even if you don’t have a motorcycle, you’re still welcome. More info at
