Main Street Altus invites businesses, individuals, and families to join the non-profit organization during its official membership drive. Its mission states that “Main Street Altus is committed to creating a destination for residents and visitors to work, shop and have fun creating memories for our future.” Main Street Altus was established in 1992 and is celebrating its 24th year.
Community Events organized by Main Street Altus include: the 12th Walkin’ on Chalk on March 6; the 18th Rock-N-Rumble Car Show & Cruise on May 6 and 7; the 22nd Cotton Pickin’ Chili Cook Off on Oct. 1; and the 16th Candy Cane Cash “Sweet”stakes on Dec. 17.
Main Street is a national program within the National Trust for Historic Preservation. The Oklahoma Main Street program is governed by the Oklahoma Department of Commerce. All programs focus on a four-point approach: Design, Economic Restructuring, Organization, and Promotion.
Main Street Altus board members are: Krystal Martin, President, Niki Graumann, Vice President, Cathy Stone, Secretary, Connie McQuinn, Treasurer, and Bonnie McAskill, Cory Graham, Drew George, Kim Sellers, Mindy Smiley, Ralph VanOostrum, Rosalyn Hall, Shannon Preston and Vicki Smades. Amy Jo Cobb is the Program Director and Michelle Hill is the assistant. Volunteers contribute a number of hours to the program and are priceless assets.
A tax deductible donation for membership can be made to Main Street Altus. A number of membership levels are available for large, medium, and small businesses, families, and individuals.
