District cafeteria staff works diligently each day to provide nutritious meals for their students. They were recognized this past week during “Pride in Food Service Week.” Will Rogers Elementary staff took this opportunity to applaud the hard work and dedication their cafeteria manager and cooks show at their school site each day.
Students offered smiles and kind words of appreciation to the staff all week as they passed through the meal line. They also created and posted handmade note cards and beautiful signs with words of how much they love their food and cooks at school and what their favorite foods were. The Coordinated Approach to Child Health poster with student stickers on the wall is a great example of how healthy eating has been incorporated into their meals and daily life. The school staff provided a special breakfast for the cafeteria staff showing their appreciation for the cooks neverending efforts seen each day.
The Will Rogers Elementary students also kept the cafeteria staff smiling all week with heartfelt comments and hugs. The cook staff, Roberta Thompson, cafeteria manager and Margarita Molina and Elida Lopez, cafeteria cooks, commented, “I feel loved.” That is the kind of work environment we all seek to be a part of.
According to Sabina Garrett, Child Nutrition Program Director for Altus Public Schools, district cooks provide continual encouragement during meal hours and in the classroom to all students supporting healthy eating habits, overall wellness and show a never ending commitment and pride in creating a true “atmosphere of family.” Altus Public Schools is making strides in health and wellness in our children’s lives.
