Sunday School kids help foster care children

By Mary O. Esparza, -

Students in the Martha Road Baptist Church first through fourth grade Sunday School classes recently donated emergency bags for children in foster care.

This was done after the church encouraged Sunday School youth to lend a helping hand within the community. Leslie Worst with Martha Road Baptist Church said, “We are given free range to help wherever God leads us. Some classes help the elderly with yard work, making care packages, or showing appreciation to our police officers, firefighters , EMTs and others. Foster care has always weighed heavy on my heart, so I presented the idea of the emergency bags for foster kids. All the teachers agreed to participate with their classes, and we we were able to fill four bags.”

South West Youth Services Foster Care/Host Home director Woodine Roudebush said, “We were so grateful to these young children for their donations.”

The most recent OKDHS Foster Care report showed that there were 72 Jackson County children in out-of-home placement.
