The City of Altus has been in search of a new City Manager since David Fuqua was fired on Jan. 14 in a special called meeting. After declaring a vacancy in the position, City Attorney Catherine Coke was named as the Acting City Manager. Larry Shelton was later named the Interim City Manager.
Since the January vacancy, the City Human Resources Department has received many applications for the position.
Mayor Jack Smiley said today, “Acting City Manager Larry Shelton has done an excellent job in choosing four to invite for an interview. On Saturday, the City Council, Mr. Shelton, and myself interviewed the candidates. We interviewed each prospect and picked one. Mr. Shelton was going to work on an employment contract proposal and offer for the possible hire.”
Although a candidate has been picked and offered the position, the person has not yet been hired or named as of press time.
In unrelated City news, a special City Council workshop has been scheduled for 6 p.m. today to discuss utility rates and related information.
