The Altus City Council held a workshop Tuesday evening, April 12 to discuss utility items.
The City of Altus draft water, sewer and solid waste cost of service study was again reviewed, along with a second report from Assistant City Manager Matt Wojnowski. He presented a breakdown report (using the Olson study) on water, sewer, sanitation and landfill. He researched use and revenue, current rates and cost of service rates by resident, small commercial, large commercial and Industrial I and II.
Several meetings have been scheduled to decipher a justifiable and fair utility rate change. The City of Altus hopes to recoup $224,670.39 of the losses they have seen since the June 2015 billing cycle.
After much discussion, and making a few minor changes, council agreed to schedule an AMA and special Council meeting to consider, discuss and vote to authorize the Altus City Council to: 1) Pass an emergency ordinance amending electric rates, Chapter 28, Art. II, Electric, Div. 2, Secs 28-43, 28-47, 28-51, 28-55, 28-60, and 28-62, revising the energy charge for all classifications of customers, increasing the energy charge for three billing cycles [Option 3] then setting a corrected energy charge [Option 1] After the June 30, 2016 billing cycle; and 2) approve the emergency section, to be effective with the April 15, 2016 billing cycle, and/or any other appropriate action.
The next meeting is scheduled for noon on Thursday, April 14 in Council chambers.
