Tragedy struck this Independence Day when an 18-year-old Texas man drowned at Lake Altus-Lugert in Greer County, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.
Jessie Ramirez, of Vernon, Texas was swimming at the HorseHead Cove area about noon Monday with three other people, when Ramirez submerged and did not resurface, authorities said Tuesday.
Trooper George Hoyle of the Marine Enforcement Division of OHP investigated the incident with the help of OHP Trooper Gary Smith, Trooper Woody Perry, Lt. Steve Pothorst, Lt. Richard Van Horn, Trooper Shawn Laughlin, Trooper Kyle Shaw, Trooper Justin Wheeler, Oklahoma State Parks Rangers, Greer County Sheriff’s Department officers and Quartz Mountain Fire Department responders.
Officers used side-scan sonar and a drag tool to recover the victim in 20 feet of water about 8:19 p.m. Monday, according to a press release.
The body was transported to Ray and Martha’s Funeral Home in Hobart, pronounced dead by Medical Examiner Jim Delbridge and will transported to Oklahoma City Medical Examiner’s Office, according to the OHP.
