Charles Leslie Shaw III, 22, appeared in front of Special District Judge Brad Leverett on Friday with Assistant District Attorney Stephanie Powers appearing for the state and the defendant appeared with attorney Jeff Wolfenbarger.
A preliminary hearing for Shaw is scheduled for 9 a.m. Aug. 30 at the Jackson County Law Enforcement Center.
Shaw is charged with one count of shooting with the intent to kill, a felony that allegedly occurred May 29.
Altus Police responded to the dispatch call and later arrested Shaw on charges of intentionally shooting 23-year-old Brenda Ortiz.
Ortiz was shot one time in the abdomen as she stood in the breezeway of her apartment at 1305 Springfield Drive in Southwest Altus.
Ortiz was taken to Jackson County Memorial Hospital and than later to Oklahoma City hospital by Medi-Flight.
Shaw’s initial court appearance was 9:30 a.m. June 2 with Leverett, who set a bond at $250,000.
If convicted, Shaw could face up to life in prison.
