Arturo DeJesus, 33, appeared before Associate District Judge Clark Huey at the Jackson County Sheriff Court for formal arraignment Wednesday .
DeJesus was arrested at in the 800 block of South Baucum Street in Altus on March 14 on the charge of first degree rape. Special District Judge Brad Leverett denied the defendant bond due to a violent crime pending. The first degree rape charge offense carries a maximum penalty of up to life in prison.
According to the affidavit, the alleged rape occurred in December 2015 on a Friday night, just prior to the victim’s school Christmas break.
The Altus Police Department received a telephone call from Maggie DeJesus, reporting a sexual assault on a 16-year-old juvenile female. According to the affidavit, Arturo DeJesus allegedly forced the victim to have sexual intercourse with him and she was now pregnant from the sexual encounter.
DeJesus and his wife were separated at the time of the incident and living at different residences.
The defendant and his attorney are scheduled to appear in Jackson County district court Sept. 9 for pre-trial hearing in which he can plead guilty or choose to have a trial.
