Altus Police are searching for two men involved in the theft of two handguns from a local pawn shop.

According Altus Police Chief Tim Murphy, police responded to Go Pawn, located at 719 E. Broadway, at approximately 3:30 p.m. on Thursday afternoon.

“After entering the store, video surveillance shows one suspect attempting to keep the owner occupied or distracted during a pawn transaction while the other suspect reaches over the display showcase, removes a handgun,” said Murphy. “He then places it in his waistband and conceals it with his shirt.”

Murphy said that after the theft, the video shows the two suspects speaking to one another. “A short time later, one of the suspects distracts the store owner while the other reaches into the display showcase and removes a second handgun.”

The two suspects left the shop together a short time later, and the suspects were identified on video surveillance after police made contact with the two men on Wednesday afternoon, on an unrelated call, in the area of Go Pawn.

The suspects have been identified as Omar Macias Villegas, 20, and Joseph Luis Perez, 19. Villegas is a Hispanic male, 5 foot 7 inches tall, weighing approximately 155 pounds. Perez is also a Hispanic male, 5 foot 6 inches tall, weighing approximately 130 pounds.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of these two suspects can call the Altus Police Department at 580-482-4121 or Altus-Jackson County Crime Stoppers at 580-482-TIPS (8477). You can remain anonymous and you could be eligible for a cash reward.
