(AP with local reports) — A winter storm that dropped more than 10 inches of snow in parts of southwest Oklahoma is making its way out of the state. Parts of the area reported as much as 13 inches of snow.

Snow and sleet fell on southwest Oklahoma Sunday, with 8-10 inches of snow reported in Altus, 10 inches of snow reported in Granite, and 13 inches of snow reported in Vinson. Elsewhere in Oklahoma, dry low-level air and sleet prevented major accumulations of snow.

Although the sun was out in full force today, and skies were blue, a winter weather advisory was in place until 1 p.m. today for parts of central Oklahoma as areas of light freezing rain and sleet were expected to move through. A small section of southeastern Oklahoma is still under a winter storm warning with a mix of freezing rain and sleet predicted.

The entire state of Oklahoma received some type of precipitation this weekend from the multiple fronts, but the southwest received the most snow. The central part of the state received mostly sleet and freezing rain on Sunday, while a significant rain fell Thursday and Friday primarily in the southeast. Precipitation totals for the week will not be accurate, as the frozen precipitation needs to melt before it is recorded, and temperatures remained below freezing all day Sunday for most of the state. Temperatures were mild the first half of the week before the first cold front came through on Thursday.

The ice and snow made field work difficult and slowed the progress of the cotton harvest. Topsoil moisture conditions were rated 63 percent adequate to surplus and 37 percent short to very short. Subsoil moisture conditions were rated 50 percent adequate to surplus and 50 percent short to very short. There were only 4.9 days suitable for fieldwork.

City of Altus Emergency Management Director Loyd Colston stated in case of any type of emergency, it is better to be informed that afraid. He suggests watching local and area media, as well as the Altus Ready twitter and blogs.
