2013 Miss Oklahoma, Kelsey Griswold of Tulsa, arrived in Altus Monday for her week-long tour of the area where she will visit Altus schools and businesses before attending the Miss Altus Pageant on Saturday night.
Miss Altus Pageant organizers arranged for Miss Oklahoma to enjoy her first meal in town starting at Applebee’s.
“We’ve been here for about an hour and I’ve already experienced more generosity than I have the entire time I’ve been living in Tulsa,” Griswold said. “I’m excited for the rest of the week.”
Griswold will be at the Rotary Club Luncheon today, joined by 1978 Miss Oklahoma, Kendi Brown Wampler, and Miss Altus Outstanding Teen 2014 Lexie Herron, and will visit Fort Sill in Lawton this afternoon.
Miss Oklahoma will then continue to tour of all the Altus Public elementary schools on Wednesday and Thursday. Wednesday: River’s Elementary at 9:30 a.m., Sunset Elementary at 1 p.m., and Roosevelt Elementary at 2:15 p.m. Thursday: Will Rogers at 1:15 p.m. and Washington at 2:15 p.m.
Griswold plans to use the opportunity to educate students about reaching their dreams, as well has discuss her platform, A.R.T. (Artists Reaching Together).
“Its a program that I essentially started back in high school where students with developmental disabilities and learning disabilities are taught artistic development skills where you teach them how to sing and dance and draw and paint and this helps their communicative skills.”
Miss Oklahoma will conclude her tour with the main event, the Miss Altus Pageant, at the Altus City Auditorium on Saturday, Feb. 8 starting at 8 p.m.
