Sen. Schulz and Rep. Ortega met with over 130 Altus teachers, administrators, parents, students and school board members during the Rally for Education on Monday, March 31. Over 25,000 Oklahoma citizens converged on the State Capitol lawn to rally for increased funding for public education.

Altus parents, students, teachers, administrators and school board members joined the masses in Oklahoma in hopes of expressing discontent with the State of Oklahoma ranking 49th in per pupil spending. The Altus delegation, consisting of over 130 Jackson County citizens, was welcomed by both Senator Mike Schulz and Representative Charles Ortega. The two legislators hosted the Altus group for a legislative update session on the fifth floor of the Capitol in the Senate Assembly Conference Room. This unique meeting opened positive dialogue between the legislators and concerned constituents.

Over 70 Altus employees and citizens were taken by charter buses to Oklahoma City courtesy of Shamrock Bank, First National Bank, Altus Oil and Feed, Rexco Drug, Wilmes Superstore, Wilmes Chevrolet, Lamb Dental, Mr. and Mrs. John McLeod, Mr. and Mrs. Brent McLeod, and Mr. and Mrs. Judd Herring.
