Ralph Campbell, 65, was critically injured after the right rear wheel of a tractor ran over his chest on Thursday, June 5. Campbell was taken to Jackson County Memorial Hospital for a possible medi-flight to Oklahoma City.
Jackson County EMS responded to the call located on CR 201, 2.5 miles north of Martha, where Campbell was working on his tractor with his son Robert Campbell.
“I had the tools in my hand,” son Robert Campbell said. “I had just come around the front and he said, ‘Contact,’ turned it on, and as soon as he hit the starter, it moved, knocked him down, and went right over him.”
Robert said they were fixing the front loader on the tractor.
“He was going to start it and lift the hydraulics up, and whenever he restarted it, that’s when it took off,” Robert said.
Ralph was said to be located between the right-side of the steering wheel and the body of the tractor when it took off. Then the tractor rode across the yard and collided with two lawn mowers, pushing them across the road into a ditch.
His condition was not known at press time.
