Altus Police have arrested a man considered to be a person of interest related to ongoing investigations in the Altus area. On Tuesday, July 8, Shawn Dorsey, 24, was arrested following a police chase around the 100 block of S. Howse.
Altus Police reported that a handgun was also discovered after searching the 1996 gold Chevy Caprice that was being driven by Dorsey. Chief Deputy Mike Bell said that Dorsey is a person of interest in an ongoing investigation, but could not confirm or deny the claim that it is connected to the shootings in Altus this past week, and that those incidents are still under investigation.
According to reports, on Tuesday police had signaled for Dorsey to pull over for a traffic stop, but instead, he sped away. Dorsey then abandoned his vehicle in the 100 block of S. Howse and ran down a nearby alley on foot. Police spotted Dorsey hiding on a front porch, but after being spotted, he began running again. He was then cutoff by a patrol car and arrested. Detectives searched Dorsey’s vehicle and found a pistol.
Dorsey has been charged with eluding a peace officer, being a convicted felon possessing a firearm, and operating a motor vehicle without a driver’s license.
