Altus Police Department responded to an early-morning call at approximately 1:30 a.m. on Friday. According to reports, a female motorist lost control of a white 2012 GMC Terrain near Asalee and Glenda Street before sliding into the Roosevelt Elementary School building in south Altus.
The vehicle was going westbound on Asalee when it departed the roadway, going southbound toward the school, according to a report made by APD. Officers suspect the vehicle was traveling at a high speed. The vehicle slid about 20 feet and made contact with a bicycle rack, then hit an air conditioning unit, and then hit the school building.
The vehicle’s airbag deployed. The driver received an injury to the left elbow and was taken to Jackson County Memorial Hospital by Jackson County EMS where she was issued a citation by Altus Police. The driver’s name is being withheld at this time.
