The public is invited to come to the Southwest Oklahoma Republican Women’s meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 27 to meet real Chimney Sweeps and to recognize two of Altus’ best first responders.
Two Altus Air Force Base firefighters, Chris Brewer and Doug Shimmim, will be the speakers at the August meeting to be held at the Best Western where dinner will be served at 6 p.m. for five dollars. They will discuss causes of in-home fires which don’t immediately come to mind such as from dryer vents. This topic is especially important as we prepare our homes for winter.
Chris, an Altus native, is the son of Ricky and Marsha Brewer. He is married to Banner, an assistant librarian at Sunset School, and is the father of Brayden, an Altus High School student, and Baileigh, a student at the Altus Junior High School.
Chris recently received his Bachelor’s degree in Fire Science from Columbia Southern University. He has 15 years of fire service and served six years with the United States Air Force.
Doug is married to Linda and is the father of two daughters, Elena and Marina. Altus has always been special to him because he his first Air Force assignment was here along with the fact that he met and married Linda here. He joined the military as a firefighter in 2001, following in the footsteps of his father who retired after 20 years of service to his country.
Doug’s other Air Force assignments include RAF Mildenhall England and Beale Air Force Base. He is currently in his third year of college pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Public Safety and Emergency Management.
Please come have dinner with two of America’s heros as we acknowledge their service to our country and learn abour fire prevention for your home. For more information, call 471-2573.
