The Coffee Cup Bunch of the Friends of the Library will hear a review of Milking the Kickers, a recently published book with over 250 stories of the “good old days” in Southwest Oklahoma. The event will take place at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 2 at the Altus Public Library.
Karan Garrett, one of the book’s storytellers, has invited other local storytellers to share their stories with the group. Darlene Bock from Mangum, Melba Combs from Duke, and Betty Stewart and Charlene Moberly from Altus will join with Karan to make the presentation.
The book endeavors to tell what life was really like back in the earlier years of the 20th century, a time that will never been seen again. The presenters’ stories range from recollections of the “dirty 30s” to experiences in a one-room schoolhouse to memories of “homemade fun” to childhood visits to grandpa’s farm. In short, the group will be entertained with interesting, humorous, unusual, and exciting “happenings” from the past.
The Coffee Cup Bunch meets on the first Wednesday of every month. The meetings are free and open to the public.
