Sue is known for her beautiful landscape paintings of Southwest Oklahoma. Sue’s paintings of the Wild Life Refuge and Quartz Mountain State Park are some of her most recognizable works. Sue regularly exhibits her work here at the library and various museums around the state. Sue Messerly makes her home in Altus, Oklahoma. She and her husband spend many days a year in the nearby Wichita Mountains, camping and hiking. Her love of the rugged scenery and wildlife found there is expressed in many of her paintings.
Sue majored in Fine Art at Colorado University and at North Texas State University. She has also taken painting workshops from Tony Couch, Rick McClure, Ben Konis, John Budicin and Jill Carver. Sue often paints outdoors. She uses these paintings and photographs she has taken to paint more detailed works in her studio. Sue began painting in watercolor and progressed to painting in oils over the last few years. Her paintings and cards can be seen at the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Visitors Center, the Laughing Lizard in Medicine Park, Oklahoma, and museums in Lawton and Altus.
