Accident caused by distracted driver
A personal injury accident happened at about 1 p.m. on Monday on CR 210 at CR 170 in Jackson County.
According to reports from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Emily Capehart, 24, of Mangum, was driving a 1999 Volkswagen north bound on CR 210 when she left the left side of the road. She then over-corrected and left the right side of the road. The vehicle overturned 1/2 times, coming to rest on its side.
Capehart was taken by Air Evac to United Regional Hospital in Wichita Falls, Texas where she was treated and released.
A passenger in the vehicle, Felix Jr. Diaz, 35, of Altus, was taken by Jackson County EMS to Jackson County Memorial Hospital in Altus where he was admitted in stable condition with abdomen pain.
The cause of the accident was said to have been a distraction by the passenger in the vehicle.
Seat belts were equipped and in use by the driver only. Airbags were equipped but did not deploy.
The accident was investigated by Trooper Josh Christian and assisted by Lt. Stephen Pothorst, Jimmy Wallace, the Tillman County Sheriff’s Department, Jackson County EMS and Air Evac.
