The Jackson County Extension Office and Southwest Technology Center (SWTC) will offer a commodity market meeting on Wednesday, February 26th, 2014, 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m., in Room 109, at SWTC. Discussion leaders will be Dr. Kim Anderson, OSU Extension Grain Marketing Specialist and Dr. Derrel Peel, OSU Livestock Marketing Specialist. Topics addressed will be the grain and livestock markets. These meetings are designed to foster a better understanding of how the market operates, how to best utilize the market, reports on current market status, and brief crop or crop program updates.
This meeting will be conducted utilizing live interactive technology with the Stillwater Campus, meaning they will be able to see and hear us and vice versa, and in person visits with our cotton specialists. Farm Bill Orientation and Wheat/Canola Crop Update and Outlook Meeting
On March 6th, Jackson County’s OSU Extension and Farm Service Agency will offer a meeting looking at the details of the newly passed and signed Farm Bill. Dr. Jody Campiche, OSU Agriculture Economics Farm Policy Specialist and Mr. Carl Josefy will lead a discussion addressing the new Farm Bill. The new program and program*commodity interactions will be of great importance to local and area agriculture producers. This meeting will be the first look at how these programs are projected to work for the agriculture community.
This meeting will also include a crop update and outlook for wheat and canola along with potential budget projections and implications for the remainder of this crop production year. Mr. Jason Pace, SW District Area Agriculture Economy Specialist and Mr. Gary Strickland, Extension Educator, Agriculture will present this program.
