There is an old saying: “You can’t really understand another person’s experiences until you’ve walked a mile in their shoes” Walk a Mile in Her Shoes® asks men to literally walk one mile in women’s high heeled shoes. Each year, an ever increasing number of men, women and their families are joining the award winning Walk a Mile in Her Shoes®: The international Men’s March to Stop Rape, Sexual Assault & Gender Violence. ACMI House will be hosting their 5th Annual Walk a Mile in Her Shoes® event on Saturday, April 12.
ACMI House invites every community member to take a stand against sexual violence in our community and to come “Walk the Walk” with us. Registration for the walk begins at 10 a.m. on the front lawn of the Jackson County Courthouse. At 12 p.m., participants will proudly walk down Broadway Street to the Altus City Park.
Once at the Altus City Park, they will have free food, a live band, children’s activities, information booths, awareness displays and guest speakers. They will also be giving away door prizes, to include a BBQ grill (donated by Wal-Mart) and a free night’s stay at the Holiday Inn Express.
Joining ACMI House in this event is a great way for you to support survivors of sexual violence and to take a stand against sexual violence. In 2013, Altus Police Department responded to 24 crimes of sexual violence. These 24 victims are; our brothers and sisters, our cousins, our neighbors, our church members, our coworkers, our kids, and our community members. Everyone has a reason to be aware. Will you Walk a Mile in Her Shoes®?
