Altus Public Schools’ Pre-Kindergarten Enrollment will be held at the end of April and beginning of May. This year, each elementary school site will host their own Pre-K Enrollment for the 2014 school year. Sunset Elementary will enroll Pre-Kindergarten students on Tuesday, April 29, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the AHS Library Building on Cypress and Park Lane. Rivers Elementary will host Pre-K enrollment at the same location on Thursday, May 1 from 4 to 6 p.m. Roosevelt Elementary, Washington Elementary and Will Rogers Elementary will hold Pre-K enrollment on Tuesday, May 6 from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at their school sites.
Children eligible for pre-kindergarten will turn four years old on or before Sept. 1, 2014. All Pre-K programs are full day. Pre-K classes will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
Children who are currently enrolled in Pre-K at an Altus elementary school will automatically be enrolled for the fall and do not need to attend the enrollment, provided that they return their Elementary School Choice Forms by the May 5 deadline.
Because of the Altus Schools Open Choice Policy, students providing their own transportation to and from school may choose to enroll in any local elementary school. The only exception is Rivers Elementary, which is reserved for children living in Altus Air Force Base housing or who have a parent working on base, in either a military or civilian job.
Students who will be riding the bus to school must attend the school in their designated bussing areas. No bussing will be provided to Rivers or Sunset Elementary Schools, and no bus transportation will be provided for students in Pre-K. Bus transportation area maps are available at the Board of Education Administrative Center, located at 219 N. Lee, or on the Altus Schools website, located at www.altusps.com.
To enroll, parents must bring the following for each child: Birth Certificate – an unofficial hospital record is accepted; Immunization Record; Social Security Number – optional; Proof of Residency – current utility bill, proof of payment of local or ad valorem taxes, property title, mortgage/lease agreement, rent receipt, or notarized affidavit verifying residency and custody of the student are accepted.
