Altus Police are investigating shots fired in the 1200 block of West Davis that was reported shortly before 8:30 p.m. on Monday evening. Investigators found the back window of a vehicle had been shot out by gunfire. One empty shell casing was also found at the scene. Police transported a man to the police department where he was questioned and later released.

“This shooting is one of several shooting cases that the Altus Police Department is actively investigating,” said Murphy. “We believe they are all connected by gang related activity. Residents in the areas where some shootings have taken place are reluctant to cooperate with law enforcement for fear of retaliation and although frustrating to police, it’s understandable. Police must then rely on forensic evidence in hopes of submitting criminal charges. This process often takes weeks or even months after submitting evidence to the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation.”

Altus Police is encouraging anyone with information about these shootings to contact crime stoppers at 482-TIPS (8477). You could be eligible for a cash reward and you can remain anonymous.
