The 10th annual Main Street Altus “Walkin’ On Chalk” event will be held in downtown Altus this Sunday, April 13. Registration will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The chalk and drawing contest will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Judging will be from 3 to 4 p.m. Awards will be announced at 4 p.m. Along with the contests, there will be food, art displays and other fun festivities.
Each chalk art contestant will receive a 5-foot by 5-foot area of concrete to create their works of art on. Cost to enter is just $5. Suggested supplies to being include chalk, water bottles, rags, sponges and brushes (no tempra paints and no nudes). Participants and spectators are encouraged to bring lawn chairs. This year, $1,295 was raised by sponsors to be awarded to contestants. Best of Show will receive a $200 cash prize/Jr. $100. Chalk awards will be 1st - $50, 2nd - $35, and 3rd - 25.
Banner contest winners will receive 1st - $100, 2nd - $75, and 3rd - $50. Canvas banners were donated by the Short Grass Arts and Humanities Council. Contestants will be judged from various age groups including 1-2 grade, 3-4 grade, 5-6 grade, 7-8 grade, 9-10 grade, 11-12 grade, and college/adult.
There will also be a coloring contest for the 1st and 2nd grade students at no charge. Crayons and paper will be provided.
