The Texoma Home School Band gave a musical performance at the Salvation Army Soup Kitchen on Thursday, April 10, to entertain those who stopped by for lunch.
The Texoma Home School Band is an organization based out of Lawton that teaches home-schooled kids the study of music and their musical instrument. Musical instructors Joel and Susan Haas travel to Altus once per week to work with their students. They also train two groups in Lawton and one in Wichita Falls, Texas.
“We do little performances like this and then usually in the Spring and at Christmas we get all the Altus and Lawton and Wichita Falls kids together and do a concert,” Joel said. “And there is also a State concert before Christmas and again at Spring.”
Joel states that are over 400 students state-wide that are involved in various home-school Bands.
Salvation Army Commanding Officer Lt. Joe Price said he was happy to have them come out and provide the entertainment. “It’s a good chance for these kids to come and play in front of people,” Lt. Price said. ” We try to have the community involved in many ways, volunteering or entertaining.”
