On Tuesday, May 27 the Jackson County Extension Office will offer its annual Spring Wheat Field Tour. The tour will be held at the Bob Howard Home Site located four miles north of County Road 213 (nine miles east of the Jackson County Courthouse) and highway 62 intersection, 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., with a sponsored lunch being served.
They will look at the Wheat Variety Demonstration Block, a Herbicide Research Study plus have discussions on wheat fertility and perceived problems this year, and wheat acreage reports for our area.
Speakers will be Dr. Brian Arnall, OSU Precision Nutrient Management Specialist and Gary Strickland, Jackson County Agriculture Educator. This should be an informative field tour, given our production year, with some interesting discussion.

The Jackson County Extension Office and Southwest Technology Center (SWTC) will offer a commodity market meeting on Thursday (not Wednesday for this month), May 29, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., in room 109, at SWTC.
Discussion leaders will be Dr. Kim Anderson, OSU Extension Grain Marketing Specialist and Dr. Derrel Peel, OSU Livestock Marketing Specialist, and Mr. Jason Pace, SW District Area Agriculture Economist. Topics addressed will be the grain, cotton, and livestock markets.
These meetings are designed to foster a better understanding of how the market operates, how to best utilize the market, reports on current market status, and brief crop or crop program updates.
This meeting will be conducted utilizing live interactive technology with the Stillwater Campus, meaning they will be able to see and hear us and vice versa, and in person visits with our district extension specialists. A light free lunch will be served.
