Savannah Phillips is the Tourism Ambassador for Altus and Jackson County this year. She began the drive earlier this week which designates all funds raised for tourism promotion activities and to promote Altus and the immediate area.
The visitor industry in the state and region continues to grow because of many destination points in our area. Those include Quartz Mountain Arts and Conference Center and Nature Park, Hackberry Flats Wetland Restoration Project near Frederick and the National Park at Cheyenne. Another program is to secure a designation from the Department of the Interior of an official “Trail” for the Great Western Cattle Trail that goes through southwest Oklahoma.
Savannah Phillips is the 18-year-old daughter of Keith and Shelley Phillips, and a recent Altus High School graduate. In high school, she was active in National Honor Society serving as Vice President of Service, Varsity Chorale, and school musicals, playing the lead role of Fiona in Shrek: The Musical. Savannah is also active with her program, Savannah’s S.O.N.G, that helps financially support music students and programs. Other honors include being a three year All-Region and All-State Honor Choir member; Miss NW Passage Outstanding Teen 2010, Miss Altus Outstanding Teen 2011, Miss South OKC Outstanding Teen 2012, and Miss Oklahoma State Fair Outstanding Teen. In the fall, Savannah will attend the University of Tulsa pursuing a major in biochemistry on a pre-med track as well as a minor in French.
