A Hobart woman, Ruth Studdard, 36, was hospitalized after falling out of moving pickup truck on Wednesday.

According to reports from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, the accident happened at the CR 1330 and Hwy 44 intersection northwest of Hobart at approximately 11:46 p.m. on Wednesday.

Joshua Herd, 36, of Hobart, the driver of the 1994 Ford pickup, was not injured.

The report states that Herd was turning onto Hwy 44 from CR 1330 when the passenger door opened, causing Studdard to fall out onto the roadway. She was later taken to Elkview General Hospital in Hobart where she was admitted in stable condition with head and lower extremity injuries. She was kept overnight for observation.

The cause the accident was sited as an unsafe vehicle with mechanical defects. Seat belts were equipped but not in use.

Trooper Scott Hazle of the Kiowa County detachment of Troop M investigated the accident.
